Such a simple word. A short word made up of four simple letters… when looking up the definition of love, dictionaries try to define it as: ‘a feeling of devotion or adoration’, ‘strong feelings of affection’, ‘to show kindness or concern’, ‘embrace, caress, compassion, highly fond off, intense emotion…’ and the list goes on.
The strongest word in the universe and yet when looking at the above explanations I simply think that it is truly inexplicable. In Romans 8:38-39 we read “For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
What a promise, what an assurance, what a thought to try and gain understanding of in our minds: NOTHING. Simply nothing in this earth, or above, or beneath can separate us from the love of God. His love for us is intense and deep, without an end or a beginning. Unconditional.
Love is, was and always will be the answer to everything.
He loved you before you were even placed in your mother's womb. His heart towards you is good, pure, merciful and without limit. In His Word we read in 1 John 4:7 “Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God.” The great Almighty has given us the ability to love one another as He loves us! Can we even begin to understand the magnitude of this?
John 13:34 states “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another”. We, as humans, have complicated this for ourselves – something that God never intended to be complicated. It is so simple and He has always known that we have that ability. Adhere to His commandment with all your being: love others just as He loves you. That is an enormous amount of love... with no limitation, with no prejudice and unconditionally.
Look around you, at the workplace, in the shops, in traffic, at the cleaner in your office building, at the family He has given you, at home. Let Him open the ‘eyes of your heart’. Allow His LOVE to abound in you yet more and more. Make contact with people, look in their eyes; see the pain, the disappointment, the hurt, the fear and the unworthiness. Love drives out ALL of this and that seed of love is ever growing in each one of us. Feed it daily with living water from the Spirit of God.
We are called to change a Nation, to love a Nation. Seek more and more of the heart of God and discover why Psalm 42:7 reads "Deep calls unto deep." Find that depth in the heart of your Father and activate HIS love for all around you. Be His church, be the extension of His heart on this earth for a Nation that is desperate for His love. Love covers a multitude of sin. Love is the healing balm be a to broken people. You are that balm to those around you.
Love is, was and always will be the answer to everything. Love bears the fruit of the Spirit and we sense that God is busy breaking open and making available a larger amount of the depth of His love for His children.
Open your heart and receive. Receive the outpouring of the Spirit so that it can overflow and spread like a cleaning fire to all creation.
Love God’s people.
We love you, eternally
